The five pages following this introduction make up a short image-based presentation on the problems of mould-making, taken from my book:
Mould Making for Artisans, ISBN - 0 - 9542428 - 1 - 5, self-published and printed in-house, price £9.90 plus £2.50 post and packing ($26.50 by air) by post only from the address below.

I am constantly being asked, "Where do you get your moulds from?" And when I say, "I make them," the next question is invariably, "How?" So my book is for you, if you want to know HOW TO Do It Yourself. Publishers didn't think schools would be interested. Art schools teach artists, and artists aren't interested in making two things alike. Commercial workshops would not buy the book as they already know how to make moulds. And no one thought that enough craftspeople would be interested. However after putting these pages on the web in 2003, I had many people contact me, saying I really ought to get it published because there was a need. So we had to publish it ourselves and at the moment it is being printed in-house.

Everyone knows what an apple or a banana looks like, so we used those as examples. Obviously, you would not want to make a set of china bananas, unless like me, you had a commission to produce a china bowl of china fruits which were to be as lifelike as possible, as a joke wedding present for a fruit wholesaler. Artisans are self-employed handicrafts people who employ their skills to make products which they will sell, often to the final customer.
This book will impart some insight into the craft of making moulds in several parts for the production of slip-cast figurines and similar items. The techniques can also apply to other materials, resin or wax.
